You all know the inequality between the arithmetic and geometric mean, right? In any case, it says that if x and y are two positive numbers, then their arithmetic mean is greater than or equal to their geometric mean, or in math notation:

It is of course not hard at all to prove this, but I just read in the Mathematics Magazine a cute “proof without words” for it, which to save the time of drawing the picture I will reproduce here with words. Consider a right angle triangle with the two sides being
and
. Then the hypotenuse is
.
I love proofs without words!

No 3 is here! It’s short (3 minutes), small (10MB), sound is good (you can hear me), and it introduces the new commands for greek letters, other symbols and inline label and bibliography completion. Enjoy and, as always, leave me your comments.
Previous Screencasts: No 2 and No 1.
Update: This post clears the problems with syncing with TeXniscope in Intel macs that people have been having.

Well, since my previous screencast was relatively popular, here is another one that goes into more advanced features relating to managing projects, BibDesk integration and the new and super-”enhanced show labels” command, which was completed only two hours ago. It’s approximately 23MB in size, and it runs for 9 minutes. Enjoy!
Edited to add: Thanks to William Neumann’s help, and the wonderful audacity, I’ve managed to amplify the sound at the cost of increasing the file, so you can take your pick. This one is 36MB 23MB.

I’ve recently run into two really cool (IMHO) widgets, which I’d like to share with you. One is iCal Events, very simple and elegant. I probably don’t need to tell you what it does.
The other really impressive widget is called Symbols, and it contains a pretty large and well indexed list of commands/escape sequences for various symbols in both LaTeX and HTML, as well as keyboard shortcuts that directly produce those symbols in Unicode. Very useful to all us LaTeX users.
Edited to add: Another cool widget, very helpful when working with CSS.

I just created a little screencast that shows just a couple of the basic ways of using TextMate for editing LaTeX files. The volume is not too high I’m afraid, but I am not sure how to improve it with the built-in microphones of my iBook. Hopefully this will be just the first in a series of screencasts that explore more and more advance parts of TM and LaTeX. You can download it here, and it is about 25MB.
Let me know what you think, and what you’d like to see. Please, be harsh in your critisism.
Edited to add: Here’s the same version with slightly better sound.
