Brand new Hard Drive, part 2
Continuing my story of installing all my favorite goodies in my brand new hard drive, I forgot to mention that I was very lucky with porting my mailboxes. I just backed up the folder /Library/Mail to an external hard drive, and then just copied it back up to the new system. This did not keep my account information, but once I created the accounts again, all my mail was there! Very
convenient, and in extreme contrast with what happened when porting from 10.3 to 10.4. Anyway, that’s another story.
First off, let me add a bookmarklet in Firefox that allows me to search for the current selection in Wikipedia. Very useful! Ok, time to get
running. I’m going to use Gerben Wierda’s i-Installer. He has done a really wonderful job with it. It makes installing
and other stuff a piece of cake. Ok, start i-Installer, find the
package, click on “install and configure”, expert setup, 2004 stable, add what you want, done! Well, not exactly, it takes some time for it to be done. In the meantime, I’ll continue. I think SSHKeychain is next. Ok, done, though it says I will need to logout and back in for it to start working properly. Oh well, maybe abit later, once
gets installed.
Oh yes, this reminds me, TeXniScope. I remember there was a slight customization I had to do to make it work with TextMate seamlessly, i.e. clicking on the PDF would take me to the same point in the source file. I’ll worry about that later. Well,
is still being downloaded, so I’ll keep on downloading other small programs as well. Next in line, LaTeXIt and VLC. And of course, the Schubert PDF plugin.
Ok, this feels pretty complete for now. Later I’ll try to compile Macaulay 2, because I don’t really want to use fink. We’ll see.
